When I was a wee girl at school I remember the 'nits tits and dangly bits' lady coming to see me. The dreaded Sex Ed.
Here at Sheffield University we have a dedicated group of medics who volunteer to take on the task of supporting sex education programmes in local schools. The opperate with a set of values to talk openly about sex and remove the feeling that it's a taboo subject
- Creating opportunities to discuss sexual matters in an open, non-judgmental environment.
- Promoting individual self-esteem and empowerment.
- Encouraging respect for personal beliefs and values.
- Facilitating informed decision-making and autonomy regarding sex.
- Ensuring that young people have the skills to access sources of confidential advice.
These studets talk openly about sex, and as an officer team, we're supporting Jenni (Welfare) on her campaign remove the social stigma around sex. If you've got any questions about sex or sexual health, then Jenni's door is always open.
She's also just re-launched '
Sexplored' which is a drop in clinic run by full trained student volunteers which can provide you with advice on:
- contraception
- STIs
- pregnancy services
Or provide you with free condoms and free DIY chlamydia tests.
So if you're a medic, why not look at helping MedSex? Or if you ever need any help or advice, pop into Sexplored, or see Jenni in her office.
Love Claire
